Elba

With a total coast of 150 km length, Elba is approx. 30 km long by 18 km wide and belongs to Tuscany. Elba has mountains reaching up to 1,000 m with very lush vegetation in parts, an often rocky coast interrupted by many small inlets but also long sandy and pebbly beaches - a great place for varied and recreational holidays. In earlier times, Elba was known for its iron ore deposits; the Etruscans already mined this metal for the armour of its soldiers.

By ferry from Piombino, you will reach the lively harbour Portoferraio in one hour. During the peak season, tickets for the ferry should be booked in advance.

Today, Elba mostly lives from tourism, but the island never appears “overcrowded” since the tourists’ accommodations are mainly situated on the mountain sides and near the beach coves. Luckily, Elba does not have any building “eyesores”.

Portoferraio has a very Tuscan character, Capoliveri was formerly inhabited by Neapolitans and the area around Marciana is Corsican. However, the contrasts created by different immigrants have long since blurred.

Scattered all over Elba, we can offer you wonderful (splendid) holiday domiciles which will enhance the individual character of your stay. You will hardly ever find any holiday apartments in larger units; there are rarely more than 3-4 apartments in one place, often the only other inhabitants of a house are the owners themselves.

But we can also offer detached houses or villas.

Some few objects are even equipped with a pool, despite their nearness to the sea. Often the beach can easily be reached on foot – but always in just a few minutes by car.

The prices on an island are naturally a little higher than on the mainland. Everywhere on the island, you will find very cosy bars, restaurants or “fattorias”; beside well known Italian and Tuscan menus, you will find deliciously prepared fish dishes and very good local wines.
